'He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver.' Malachi 3:3

This verse puzzled some women in a Bible study and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God ..
One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible Study.

That week, the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining Silver.

As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities.

The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot; then she thought again about the verse that says: ' He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver.' She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time. The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed. The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, 'How do you know when the silver is fully refined?' He smiled at her and answered, ' Oh, that's easy -- when I see my image in it.'

If today you are feeling the heat of the fire, remember that God has his eye on you and will keep watching you until He sees His image in you.

NEW Series Beginning Spring 2011

It seems like just yesterday I was planning 2010's Bible Study schedule. Now here I am planning 2011.

I am so excited about what the Lord has in store for us next year. There are so many new studies out there by some remarkable teachers. I've began to pray about what the Lord would like us to study in January. I am implementing the 5 M's and I'm expecting the mercy of confirmation :)

For now, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and I'm looking forward to reuniting with each of you next year :)

Love,
Misty

Discussion Questions for Weeks Two & Three

Here we go....

Weeks 2 & 3 were all about the Holy Spirit, the roll that the Holy Spirit plays in our lives, How God uses the Holy Spirit to speak to us, how the Holy Spirit guides us and how we can recognize the Holy Spirit when He speaks to us. These few weeks have been quite the eye opener for me. I have been asking God for some insight into the Holy Spirit for several months. I've read several commentaries and sent emails to friends asking for their input. Still not satisfied with my findings, here it is! Right here in our Woman's Bible Study! God is so good! But, I don't have to tell you that- cuz you already know :)

Discussion Question #1:
Through these two weeks of studying the Holy Spirit, what characteristic of the Holy Spirit did you not know about until now?

Discussion Question #2:
What changes (if any) will you be incorporating into your daily decision making process?

Discussion Question #3:
would you be interested in participating in an online chat to discuss what we are learning in real time? if so, what time of the day would work best for your schedule- early morning, lunch time or late evening?

I look forward to your responses to our discussion questions. If there is anything you would like to discuss that does not fall under any of the questions posted, please feel free to post your question or comment anyway :)
